The 1871 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-1118 is a proof half dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1871 half dollar dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1871 off-metal strikings from the regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. USPatterns.com has not seen an aluminum example since the Farouk sale or the Lohr fixed price list. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1254 and Adams-Woodin 1143. Cataloged as PCGS #61377.
