Featuring a new obverse design concept that moves further from the established Seated Liberty formula, J-1111 was struck in the standard silver alloy. This more innovative approach to the half dollar obverse reflects the growing ambition of the Trade Dollar era pattern program, which began with modest modifications to existing designs but progressively explored bolder artistic departures as the year progressed. The eagle reverse remained relatively stable as the obverse experimentation intensified.
