Description
Pairing a modified Seated Liberty obverse with a revised wreath reverse, this copper-nickel half dime pattern represents one of the later entries in the denomination's sixteen-variety subseries. The revised wreath differs from companion varieties in specific botanical details such as leaf count, berry arrangement, and bow treatment at the base. Barber's exhaustive approach to reverse wreath variations across the half dime series produced more design permutations than for any other denomination in the 1870 Standard Silver program, suggesting particular interest in optimizing the reverse for this smallest silver coin.
