Description

The standard silver alloy counterpart to J-809, this half dime pattern reproduces the Seated Liberty obverse with stars and HALF DIME wreath reverse in Linderman's proposed composition. Comparing J-809 in traditional .900 fine silver with J-810 in the lower-fineness standard silver reveals the subtle but perceptible differences in luster and surface quality that would have influenced congressional evaluation of the proposal. The half dime's small planchet made such compositional differences particularly noticeable, as there was less metal surface to mask color variations.

Rarity Notes

R-7. Extremely rare, estimated 4-12 examples survive.
