Description

A proof striking of J-726, the sixth variety in the 1869 quarter pattern series. By this point in the program, Barber had established a substantial portfolio of design alternatives for the denomination. The systematic exploration of possibilities through sequential varieties created a design landscape from which the strongest concepts could be identified and further developed. The Seated Liberty quarter's thirty-one-year tenure made any proposed change significant.
