Description
The 1869 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-778 is a unique brass muling in the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It is a brass muling of an 1869 five-cent pattern obverse with the half eagle reverse without the motto used before 1866, believed to have been struck outside the Mint from dies sold as scrap and bought by Joseph J. Mickley. The single known example is ex Crosby and Garrett. It is struck in brass with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-860. Cataloged as PCGS #61010.
