Description
The 1868 Three Dollar Pattern - J-C1868-4 is Joseph Merriam's Lincoln design dated 1868, struck in lead with a reeded edge, which USPatterns.com does not believe to be a Mint product. The single known example is on a thick planchet; USPatterns.com describes it as a true test piece, struck before the obverse die cracked and double struck, with the 1868 date showing incuse and reversed at three points around the coin. It is also catalogued as Pollock-5120.
