The 1868 Proof Half Dime Pattern - J-638 is a proof half dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It was struck from the regular 1868 half dime dies. It has the high date and a plain edge, on thick and thin planchets; about 20 are known, and USPatterns.com suggests they may be mint errors from a plain-edge collar. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-710 and Adams-Woodin 673 and 674. Cataloged as PCGS #60856.
