The 1868 Half Dime Pattern - J-638 is a nickel half dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series, and NGC lists it on the Mint State scale apart from its proofs. It was struck from the regular 1868 half dime dies. It has the high date and a plain edge, on thick and thin planchets; about 20 are known, and USPatterns.com suggests they may be mint errors from a plain-edge collar. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-710 and Adams-Woodin 673 and 674.
