Description
The 1868 Proof Dime Pattern - J-647 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It combines the Braided Hair large cent obverse used from 1840 to 1857 with a ten-cent reverse. About two dozen are known in nickel; later strikings show a reverse die crack above the denomination. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-720, Adams-Woodin 669 and Taxay EP537. Cataloged as PCGS #60865.
