Description
The 1868 Proof Dime Pattern - J-641 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is the Seated Liberty die without a date, and its reverse carries the date below the denomination with a star above; USPatterns.com ties the design to plans for redeeming fractional currency. About a dozen are known in nickel; one tested at 24% nickel and 76% copper. It is struck in nickel with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-713, Adams-Woodin 664 and Taxay EP535. Cataloged as PCGS #60859.
