Description
The 1868 Proof Dime Pattern - J-645 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It pairs the 1863 postage currency obverse with the 1868-dated reverse of J-641; David Cassel's study of the die cracks shows that the die was made and used in May 1863, so the 1868 date is a misdating. Four examples are confirmed in copper. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-717. Cataloged as PCGS #60863.
