1866 Two Cent Piece - PC-2c-1866-01R Pre-Cud
Error
Description
This 1866 two-cent piece is cataloged by Cuds on Coins as PC-2c-1866-01R, a pre-cud on the reverse die. PC stands for pre-cud, 2c for the two-cent denomination, 1866 for the year with no mint letter (Philadelphia), 01 for the sequence number and R for the reverse. A pre-cud is a die crack that leaves the rim and returns to it, enclosing a section at the edge of the die. That section is still part of the die and has not moved, so the design on both sides of the crack is level and in line. A pre-cud may go on to become a retained cud or a cud, though there is no guarantee that it will.
