Description

Judd-448, Pollock-516, is the fourth and final 1865 proof half eagle motto pattern. This last variety completes the half eagle's contribution to the motto program. The With Motto half eagle entered regular production in 1866 and continued through 1908, making it one of the longest-running With Motto designs in American coinage. The final adopted design drew on the refinements made through these 1865 patterns.
