Description
The 1865 Proof Half Eagle Pattern - J-445 is a proof half eagle struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This gold half eagle carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866; a June 1870 Mason & Co. sale stated that only two gold sets with the eagle and double eagle were struck, and two are known. It is struck in gold with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-8. Catalogued as Judd-445, Pollock-517, A/W 475, Taxay EP426. Cataloged as PCGS #60632.
