Description

Judd-380, Pollock-451, is the third and final 1864 proof half dime With Motto pattern, completing the denomination's contribution to the 1864 motto program. Together with the two 1863 varieties (J-323 and J-324), a total of five half dime motto patterns were produced across two years. This modest total reflects the half dime's diminishing importance in the American monetary system — the denomination would be discontinued in 1873, only seven years after receiving the motto on regular issues.
