Description
Judd-379, Pollock-450, is the second 1864 proof half dime With Motto pattern. This variety tests an alternative arrangement from J-378, providing another option for incorporating the motto on the smallest silver denomination. The half dime's eventual With Motto design, adopted in 1866, drew on the combined lessons of the 1863 and 1864 patterns to achieve a legible and attractive result within the severe space constraints of the 15.5mm planchet.
