Description
Judd-399, Pollock-470, is the fourth and final 1864 proof dollar motto pattern, completing the denomination's eight-variety contribution to the two-year motto program (four each in 1863 and 1864). This last dollar pattern represents the most refined version of the With Motto silver dollar design developed during the Civil War. The adopted 1866 With Motto dollar incorporated the best elements of these eight experimental designs. The Seated Liberty With Motto dollar would continue in production until 1873, when the Trade Dollar replaced it for export purposes.
