Description
Judd-358, Pollock-429, is a proof cent pattern from the extended 1864 experimentation series. This variety may test a specific modification to the Indian Head cent design, such as the addition or removal of the "L" initial, changes to the wreath composition, or adjustments to the shield detail on the reverse. The continued pattern production after the April 1864 legislation indicates the Mint was refining the adopted design even as regular production commenced.
