Description
Judd-354 is a business-strike cent pattern testing another alloy or design variation for the 1864 Indian Head cent. This variety may feature the "Without L" obverse die that was used earlier in 1864 production, or it may test a different metallic composition from J-353. The multiple business-strike cent patterns from 1864 reflect the Mint's need to validate that the new bronze composition would perform satisfactorily under normal production conditions, not just in carefully controlled proof strikings. Cataloged as PCGS #535220.
