Description
Judd-355, Pollock-426, in proof format showcases the copper-nickel composition in its finest state. This proof striking provides the sharpest possible comparison point between the old copper-nickel alloy and the new bronze composition that was replacing it. The mirror fields and frosted devices of the proof surface create an attractive contrast that highlights the design details of Longacre's Indian Head motif. Copper-nickel proof patterns from 1864 are particularly interesting because they represent the last year this alloy was used for cent-denomination coinage.
