Description

Judd-351, Pollock-401, is a proof eagle pattern struck in copper featuring the With Motto design for the ten-dollar denomination. This copper version is more available than the unique gold J-349 or the rare gilt J-350, as copper strikings were produced in larger quantities for collector distribution. The plain copper surface provides a different aesthetic experience from the gilt or gold versions, with the warm brown or red tones of copper complementing the eagle's detailed plumage in an unexpected way. Copper eagle patterns were popular with 19th-century collectors who could not afford gold specimens.

Rarity Notes

Rarity-6 to R-7. Approximately 10-15 specimens known in copper. The most available of the 1863 eagle patterns.
