Description

Judd-349 is one of the rarest and most valuable patterns in the entire Civil War series. Struck in gold, this unique proof eagle pattern features an experimental With Motto design for the ten-dollar denomination. This piece was part of the Simpson Collection, one of the finest assemblages of US pattern coins ever formed, where it was valued at approximately $1.25 million. The gold composition makes this pattern extraordinary — most eagle-denomination patterns exist only in copper, and a genuine gold striking represents a level of Mint expenditure reserved for the most important presentations. The obverse features the Liberty Head design and the reverse shows the heraldic eagle with the motto.

Rarity Notes
