Description

Judd-350, in gilt copper, provides a more accessible version of the With Motto eagle design that exists in unique gold form as J-349. The gilt copper composition simulates the appearance of a gold eagle while using far less expensive materials. The thin gold wash over the copper base creates a convincing approximation of a gold coin's surface appearance, though the weight difference between copper and gold would be immediately noticeable. This piece served as a surrogate for the gold J-349, allowing collectors and officials who could not examine the unique gold specimen to evaluate the design concept.

Rarity Notes

Rarity-7 to R-8. Extremely rare. Only 3-5 specimens believed known in gilt copper.
