Description

Judd-347, Pollock-399, is the third 1863 proof dollar motto pattern. This variety presents another configuration for the motto text and its relationship to the eagle device. The Seated Liberty dollar patterns are particularly interesting because they document the extension of the motto concept to the most prestigious regular silver denomination. Although the dollar was not actively circulating in 1863 (having been largely replaced by paper currency), the Mint maintained the design standards for the denomination through pattern production.
