Description
The 1851 (D) Liberty Gold Dollar is a Gold Dollar minted at the Dahlonega Mint, within the Liberty Head Gold Dollars 1849-1854 series. The Dahlonega Mint struck 9,882 gold dollars dated 1851. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, encircled by thirteen stars, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR and the date. Charlotte, Dahlonega, and New Orleans also struck coins. Dahlonega's Georgia mint operated from 1838 to 1861, processing Appalachian gold into coins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.672 grams, 13 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7515.
