Description
The 1850 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a Gold Quarter Eagle in the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 252,923 quarter eagles dated 1850. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Peak Gold Rush era. Charlotte, Dahlonega, and New Orleans branch mint issues are collected as specialties. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7755.
