Description
The 1850 (D) Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is a Gold Quarter Eagle minted at the Dahlonega Mint, within the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The Dahlonega Mint struck 12,148 quarter eagles dated 1850. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Peak Gold Rush era. Charlotte, Dahlonega, and New Orleans branch mint issues are collected as specialties. Dahlonega's Georgia mint operated from 1838 to 1861, processing Appalachian gold into coins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7757.
