Description
The (1841-1860)-O Eagle Die Trial - Tin Splasher, Reverse is a one-sided impression in tin from a New Orleans Mint reverse die for the Liberty Head eagle, part of the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series. The photo shows the eagle with shield, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the O mint mark and TEN D. on its face, and the same design in mirror image on the back, as on a thin one-sided strike. PCGS lists it as "(1841-60)-O DT$10 Private Restrike Tin Splasher" (PCGS #509103). The piece carries no date, and no Mint record of its striking is known, so when within that period it was made, and by whom, is not recorded.
