Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1831 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Large Letters is part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. The 1831 cent had a mintage of 3.4 million across both letter sizes; how many carry the large letters is unknown. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Minted during the age of Jacksonian democracy. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1678.
