The 1822 Die Trial is a United States coin from the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series — 8th of 39 years in the series. The obverse features test impressions from coin dies, ranging from fully detailed to partial impressions and the reverse displays test impressions that may be blank, partial, or paired with unrelated dies (mules). Struck during a period of national unity and westward expansion following the War of 1812, as the U.S. grew in confidence and territory. A notable auction result reached $17K in MS62 grade at Stack's. Designed by Various Mint engravers.
