The 1820 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Small Date is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. The U.S. Mint produced 4.4 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 5 mint variants by mintage, with 31% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Date, Small Date, and the 1820/19 overdate exist. Higher mintage year. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792.
