Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1814 Capped Bust Dime - Large Date is part of the Capped Bust Dimes 1809-1837 series. Philadelphia struck 421,500 dimes dated 1814 across all of its varieties; how many have the Large Date is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mobcap and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. No dimes are dated 1812 or 1813, and the 1814 coinage was the first sizable one for the dime since 1807. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 2.7 grams, 18.8 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4488.
