Description

The 1811 Capped Bust Dime - 1811/09 is a dime produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Capped Bust Dimes 1809-1837 series. With a mintage of 65,180, this is an extremely rare issue. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Estimated market value ranges from $317 to $10K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 2.7 grams, 19 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
