Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar - 3 Leaves is part of the Flowing Hair Dollars 1794-1795 series. The U.S. Mint produced 160,295 examples. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars, while the reverse displays a small, naturalistic eagle perched on a palm branch within a wreath within a wreath. Designed by Robert Scot. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 27 grams, 40 mm in diameter, with a lettered: hundred cents one dollar or unit edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6852. The 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar is arguably the most important coin in American numismatics — the first silver dollar authorized by the United States. A specimen sold for $10 million in 2013, making it one of the most valuable coins in the world. Even heavily worn examples are worth six figures. The more available 1795 is a cornerstone of type collecting.
