Description

The 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar - Silver Plug is a dollar produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Flowing Hair Dollars 1794-1795 series. With a mintage of 16,029, this is a scarce issue. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars, while the reverse displays a small, naturalistic eagle perched on a palm branch within a wreath within a wreath. Designed by Robert Scot. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 27 grams, 40 mm in diameter, with a lettered: hundred cents one dollar or unit edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6854. The 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar is arguably the most important coin in American numismatics — the first silver dollar authorized by the United States.
