Description
The 1787 1/2P Nova Eborac - Small Head Half Penny is filed under Nova Eborac Copper Coins in the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series. The Nova Eborac coppers dated 1787 are often called New York coppers, but Crosby notes they were not issued by authority of the state. The obverse has a laureate bust facing right with NOVA EBORAC; the reverse a seated Liberty with the New York shield, an olive branch and a liberty staff, the legend VIRT ET LIB and the date 1787. PCGS lists it as #481.
