Description

Betts-593 reverse cliche in white metal preserves the reverse die of the Daniel Morgan at Cowpens Comitia Americana medal in thin uniface format. The reverse of the Morgan medal depicts the Battle of Cowpens, showing the American tactical triumph that ranks among the most brilliant small-unit actions in military history. Morgan arranged his forces in three lines of increasing quality, with militia in front instructed to fire two volleys and then retreat, drawing the British into a devastating ambush by Continental regulars and cavalry. Dupre's rendering of this complex action in medallic form is a masterwork of narrative engraving. The reverse cliche preserves this battle scene in white metal, complementing the obverse cliche (PCGS #825288) to provide complete coverage of both dies. Together, the obverse and reverse cliches document the full artistic achievement of the Morgan at Cowpens medal design.

Rarity Notes

White metal reverse cliche. Battle scene preservation. Very scarce, especially paired with the obverse cliche.
