Description

Unique copper pattern. Obverse shows standing Indian with bow and arrow, legend "PROVINCE OF MASSA" (indicating manufacture before July 4, 1776). Reverse shows Liberty seated on globe with legend "DEFENSOR LIBERTATIS". Struck over a 1747 George II Halfpenny. The only known example resides in the American Numismatic Society collection.
