Description
This 1739 bronze medal, cataloged as Adams-Chao PBvi 15-T, shares obverse die 15 with the PBvi 15-R variety but pairs it with reverse die T. This second pairing for obverse 15 demonstrates that even late-phase obverse dies could be paired with multiple reverses, extending the variety count further. Reverse die T, with its high letter designation, was cut during the same period as the obverse 15 die. The shared obverse creates a collecting pair — the PBvi 15-R and 15-T varieties feature identical obverse portraits of Vernon with icons but differ on the reverse, providing collectors with two distinct medals sharing a common face. Struck in copper alloy (AE), the 15-T variant may be slightly scarcer than the 15-R if one pairing was discontinued sooner than the other. The Adams-Chao catalog's systematic die pairing documentation allows collectors to identify and pursue such related varieties within the vast Vernon medal series.
Rarity Notes
