A fantasy piece based on the Massachusetts Pine Tree shilling, attributed to a maker named Gletchell. Like the Elder Fantasies, this was not intended as a faithful copy of any specific Pine Tree variety but rather as an imaginative creation using elements from the Pine Tree series. Such fantasy pieces were common in the nineteenth century, when demand for colonial coins far exceeded the supply of genuine examples and enterprising engravers filled the gap with creative productions for the collector market.
