Description
This undated bronze medal, cataloged as Adams-Chao PBv 27-W, continues the cluster of undated PBv varieties in the mid-to-high twenties obverse die range. Obverse die 27 presents another undated Vernon portrait, paired with reverse die W. The progression from obverse 25 through 27 in the undated varieties indicates a sustained production run of undated medals, produced by a single workshop that consistently chose not to include dates. Reverse die W is a late single-letter designation, placing this reverse among the final dies in the primary alphabetical sequence. Struck in copper alloy (AE), the PBv 27-W variety is part of the identifiable undated production cluster that provides some of the best evidence for workshop-level production patterns in the Vernon medal series. The undated varieties' concentration in a narrow obverse die range contrasts with the wide distribution of dated varieties across the full 1-46 obverse die spectrum.
Rarity Notes
Scarce to rare. Part of the undated PBv cluster in the mid-twenties obverse die range.
