About This Coin

Later restrikes and reproductions of the celebrated Libertas Americana medal, produced from the late twentieth century onward. The original dies by Augustin Dupré, remarkably, survived for over two centuries at the Paris Mint, and authorized restrikes in silver, bronze, and gold were produced in 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2014 using either the original dies or faithful copies. Earlier reproductions include a 1976 Bicentennial version and a 1983 bronze copy. A curious fantasy mule combining the Libertas Americana obverse with a Judd-319 pattern reverse also exists. These modern issues allow collectors to own examples of one of America's most important medal designs at a fraction of the cost of the exceedingly rare originals.
