Description

This 2026 silver medal showcases Green Lantern in the United States Mint's Comic Art Coin and Medal Collection, struck as a substantial 2.5-ounce .999 fine silver piece. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) first appeared in Showcase #22 (October 1959, Hal Jordan version), created by John Broome and Gil Kane. Green Lantern is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force whose members wield power rings that can create constructs of solid light fueled by willpower. The most iconic Green Lantern, test pilot Hal Jordan, received his ring from dying alien Abin Sur in 1959, launching one of DC Comics' most creative and cosmic-scale franchises. The Green Lantern mythos expanded to include an entire corps of thousands of ring-bearers from across the universe, each patrolling their assigned sector of space. The obverse depicts Green Lantern as a glowing symbol of honor and willpower, with the power ring's energy rendered in the bold comic art illustration style of the program. The reverse features the Green Lantern Corps emblem. This 2.5-troy-ounce medal is struck in .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint with a matte finish. It measures 50.80 mm (2.000 inches) in diameter with a plain edge. As a medal rather than a coin, it does not carry a denomination or legal tender status. The authorized mintage is limited, following the 2025 precedent of 25,000 pieces per character. The 2.5-ounce silver medal is the largest format in the Comic Art program, providing an expansive canvas for the comic art designs and a substantial silver content that appeals to both collectors and precious metal enthusiasts. Green Lantern completes the 2026 trio of the Comic Art program with a fall release, adding DC's premier cosmic hero to the growing collection. The Comic Art Coin and Medal Collection is a multi-year collaboration between the United States Mint and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, featuring iconic DC Comics characters rendered in a distinctive comic art illustration style. The program launched in 2025 with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and continues with new characters each year through at least 2027. The larger diameter and heavier silver weight make this the showcase piece of each character's product lineup, with the matte finish creating a distinctive visual presentation that highlights the comic art illustration style.
