Description
The 2023 (W) Proof American Eagle One Hundred Dollar Platinum - Freedom of the Press is a proof platinum coin struck at the West Point Mint, part of the American Eagle One Hundred Dollar Platinum 1997 to Date series. The obverse features a mature oak branch with acorns inside the inscription WITH FREEDOM OF THE PRESS LIBERTY BEARS FRUIT, and the reverse displays an eagle in flight with an olive branch in its talons. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the West Point Mint, originally a bullion depository that became a full coin production facility, specializing in commemorative and bullion issues. Struck in 99.95% platinum, weighing 31.12 grams, 32.7 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #916819.
