Description
The 2022 (S) Reverse Proof American Innovation Dollar - Vermont is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. With a mintage of 49,851, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 24 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin honors snowboarding's roots in Vermont, where Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards in 1977 and helped transform snowboarding into an Olympic discipline. Rhode Island (yacht design — Nathanael Herreshoff), Vermont (snowboarding — Jake Burton Carpenter), Kentucky (bluegrass music), and Tennessee (the Tennessee Valley Authority — transforming rural electrification). As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors.
