Description
The 2021 (P) Tuskegee Airmen National Park 5oz Silver Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up with the Moton Field control tower in the background and P-51 Mustangs overhead, bearing the inscription "They Fought Two Wars." The site honors the nearly 1,000 African American pilots who overcame segregation to become one of the most distinguished fighter groups of World War II. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value is approximately $113. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 6.25 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #868391.
