Description
The 2020 (P) Burnished Salt River Bay National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 2 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 33% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a red mangrove tree in early growth stages. Salt River Bay marks the only documented site where members of a Columbus expedition set foot on what is now U.S. territory, and it protects a remarkable mangrove estuary. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $370 SP70 08-15-2022 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 31.1 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #828809.
