Description
The 2020 (P) Basketball Hall of Fame Dollar is a commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The Philadelphia Mint struck 21,328 uncirculated Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame dollars dated 2020. Authorized to honor the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, named for James Naismith who invented basketball in 1891. The obverse features three basketball players reaching for a ball in unison, reflecting the sport's diversity and intensity, while the reverse displays a basketball passing through the net. Designed by Justin Kunz (obverse, public design competition winner) and Donna Weaver (reverse). Struck in 99.9% silver, 38.1 mm in diameter. Cataloged as PCGS #812979. It was the third curved U.S. coin program, after the 2014 Baseball and 2019 Apollo 11 coins, and the first U.S. Mint coins sold in colorized versions.
