Description
The 2019 (S) Proof American Innovation Dollar - Georgia is a proof dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The obverse features the Statue of Liberty with a geared background representing innovation and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring innovations and innovators from each state and territory. This coin commemorates the 1733 Trustees' Garden in Savannah — one of America's first agricultural experimental gardens, which tested crops including orange trees, sassafras, grapes, and peach trees for colonial viability. First year of state-by-state releases honoring Delaware (classifying the stars — Annie Jump Cannon), Pennsylvania (polio vaccine — Jonas Salk), New Jersey (the light bulb — Thomas Edison), and Georgia (the Trustees' Garden, America's first agricultural experimental garden). As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value is approximately $15. Struck in copper-nickel-zinc, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #805060.
